VALENCIA Summer ripening. The traditional "juice orange", also good for eating. Blooms in spring and has small green fruit first summer which ripen the following summer. Stores well on tree for long periods actually improving in quality. Valencia orange is the world's most important orange variety. It is originated in either Spain or Portugal, no one knows which. It was introduced to Florida in 1870. It is a major variety in Florida, California, South Africa and Australia. Over 50% of the production is pressed for juice. Valencia grows well, is easy to cultivate and very productive. The fruit is of a high quality and commercially seedless (0-6 seeds). The peel is thin and the pulp is tender and very juicy. Fruit skin is yellowish orange and slightly coarse. Flesh color yellowish varying from fruit to fruit. Juice content 45% at maturity. Valencia is a late variety and keeps well on the tree. It can be picked until late spring, or even early summer, which prolongs the season and increases productivity.
